Customer case Knuerr: How a large bank managed to save thousands by consolidating it's data and being able to understand it's capacities in the Data Center by Marc Marazzi, EMEA Sales Manager, Avocent

Over 80% of organisations use manual processes for managing the moves, adds and changes in the Data Centre. Spreadsheets and CAD Designs are normal, and many teams in Data Centres are used to sharing this information. But what happens to a business when they look at the operational costs associated with this process? And what about the hidden costs of downtime by the inaccuracies found in these documents?

Avocent recently worked with a large organisation over a 6 month period and helped them get the real cost of operating in this way. Then, using the results, we looked at how they could adopt an approach of storing the data in one solution, turning the data in to information, and then turning that information in to knowledge.

The name of the bank cannot be shared, but the interesting story can.

11.50-12.10

Customer case Getronics: Future Proofing your Datacenter. by Adrian Parry, Technical Consultant EMEA, CommScope

CommScope will be sharing some of the findings of its 2009 Global Data Centre Survey and summarizing the results as an introduction to the main body of its presentation.

The primary area that will be covered will be the need to effectively manage your Data Centre network both for today’s needs and also for the future. The iPatch Intelligent Infrastructure Solution has been identified as a key component in being able to manage constant change and ensure continued availability of network resources, all while improving the efficiency of standard day-to-day processes. The main benefits of the system will be covered, as well as the options for deployment in new and existing networks.

Customer case Automation: : How a traditional bricks & mortar business builds its own cloud based on containerized data centers by Frank Vanlocke, Automation

This customer case is about a non telecom player who wants to enter the datacenter market. His current very traditional business offers the advantage that it needs a lot of grounds. With the purpose of increasing profitability of these grounds, he started a big project to build several small data centers on strategic places (near capitals, big cities, airports,...). These mini DC’s are based on the Automation containerized data center portfolio. This approach appeared to show tremendous advantages compared to the traditional collocation way of working: it offers local presence which is still valued high by many of his customers, extremely short deployment times, increased availability through intersite redundancy,... Most important aspect though to start the project was the significantly higher ROI of this way of working compared to more traditional ways of working as investement neatly follows local needs in steps the size of container. The project is still under NDA, but a press conference is planned later on this year.

Customer case Intel : Delivering the building blocks of tomorrow’s data center, today By Shannon Poulin, Enterprise Marketing Director - Data Center Group, Intel

Shannon Poulin, Intel’s headquarter based Enterprise Marketing Director within the Data Center Group, will guide you through the driving forces behind the main datacenter innovations today: faster business clock speed (eg real-time biz intelligence), cloud computing (eg Saas, Virtualization), energy efficiency and a flat world (eg Web2.0, SOA). Find out why the newest Intel Xeon processor families (Intel Xeon 5600 and Intel Xeon 7500) deliver exceptionally scalable performance, flexible virtualization, increased energy efficiency and advanced reliability, which will change the way you think about your datacenter (eg server consolidation & RISC migration). Shannon will use Intel’s own IT Datacenter to illustrate how a continuous investing into new server infrastructure reduces the amount required to operate and maintain, and he’ll share the first impact results of Intel IT’s recent state–of–the–art server deployments.
